Destination Frustration

Air travel should be a gateway to the world for everyone. It represents the thrill of discovery, the warmth of family reunions, and the freedom of global connection. But for millions of travelers with disabilities, the journey is defined not by excitement, but by barriers.

Let’s be honest: it’s time to talk about what isn’t flying.

The Reality on the Ground (and in the Air)

We’ve all heard the stories, and many of you have lived them. From dignity-stripping boarding processes to inaccessible lavatories that turn a three-hour flight into an endurance test, the current system is fundamentally broken.

Perhaps most devastating is the mishandling of essential mobility devices. To an airline, a wheelchair might look like "luggage," but to the person who uses it, that chair is an extension of their body and their independence. > "When a mobility device is mishandled, the traveler is mishandled."

When a wheelchair is damaged or destroyed in cargo, a person doesn’t just lose a suitcase; they lose their ability to move, their autonomy, and their safety.

Calling for a Change in Altitude

We are tired of "industry standards" that leave people behind. We are calling for a fundamental shift in how the travel industry views accessibility. It shouldn’t be a checkbox or an afterthought—it must be the foundation of the passenger experience.

We want to know: What should the NEW standard look like?

We are looking for your insights on how to make travel:

  • Safer: Ensuring equipment arrives in the same condition it left.

  • Easier: Streamlining the transition from the terminal to the cabin.

  • Less Restrictive: Removing the physical and procedural hurdles that limit travel.

  • Dignified: Treating every passenger with the respect they deserve.

We Want to Amplify Your Voice

The industry won't change unless we demand it, and we can’t demand it effectively without your expertise. You are the experts of your own experience.

What could airlines do to fundamentally improve your journey? What are the solutions—big or small—that would change the game for you?

Share your experiences, your frustrations, and crucially, your solutions in the comments below. Let’s demand a travel industry that respects every passenger, at every stage of the journey. Because the world is too big to be off-limits.
